Claire Bulfin, Midwife, Lactation Consultation IBCLC

My career as a midwife began 20 years ago. From the beginning I realised I was drawn to teaching mothers and their partners about birth. After I graduated from Trinity College, I combined antenatal teaching with my work as a midwife in University Hospital Waterford. I qualified as a Lactation Consultant 10 years ago and have gained invaluable experience within the hospital setting supporting mothers and babies. In 2018, I graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology with a MA (Hons) in Advanced Facilitation Skills for Promoting Health & Wellbeing.  I am the Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Team Leader for Breastfeeding Support Services in The Infant Feeding Centre, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.  I also work as a private practice Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) covering Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford and Tipperary. Additionally, I provide the HSE website with Lactation Consultation support.

I am married to Ciaran and we have four children Roisin, Cillian, Tess and Stella. Two of our children were born at home and I had the privilege of breastfeeding all four.

I was one of the founder members in establishing a voluntary parent and toddler group and a breastfeeding support group, Cuidiu in Waterford 10 years ago and today it is a thriving group of mothers supporting each other through their parenting and breastfeeding journey.

In my spare time I love travelling, catching up with friends, reading books, drama - in the audience and on stage and hanging out with the family.
